Compost Handling
The biosludge, which is produced by chemical-biological treatment of wastewater, is mixed with aspen bark to form piles. With aerobic bacteria in piles starts the process where organic matter is converted into humus.
Advantages of composting
- The need for organic fertilizers in agriculture is increasing every year
- Recovery of Phosphorous
- Successful alternative to mineral fertilizers
Estonian University of Life Sciences, Institute of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Department of Soil Science and Agrochemistry, conducted a field trials between 2008-2011 to evaluate the influence of aspen biosludge and its compost to quality and quantity of the crop, to the soil and its cost effectiveness compared to mineral fertilizers.
